Pune: Global sustainable mobility leader OPmobility has announced a major expansion of its OPmobility Pune Technical Center, strengthening its engineering and R&D capabilities to support the company’s growing footprint in India.
The move aligns with OPmobility’s strategic vision to “develop in India, for India” and underscores its commitment to making the country a key global hub for innovation and production.
OPmobility Pune Technical Center to Double Capacity
The OPmobility Pune Technical Center, which currently employs around 500 professionals, is set to double its capacity to nearly 1,000 employees.
The expansion will enable OPmobility to deliver advanced technological solutions for the Indian and regional automotive markets, including innovations in lighting systems, hybrid powertrains, and hydrogen-based mobility solutions.

OPmobility’s investment in the Pune Technical Center complements its new manufacturing plant in Badhalwadi, Talegaon, Pune, which specializes in exterior components such as bumpers.
The new facility currently produces 300,000 bumpers annually and aims to scale up to 600,000 units in the next two years. The plant also manufactures 200,000 fuel tanks, reinforcing OPmobility’s position as a key supplier to leading automakers in India.
Pune at the Core of OPmobility’s India Strategy
India remains a critical growth market for OPmobility, where the company has been operational since 2007.
With six manufacturing units across the country, the Group aims to double or even triple its sales within the next five years. The OPmobility Pune Technical Center serves as the cornerstone of this ambition, providing end-to-end design, engineering, and testing support for local and global projects.
“India is a strategic country for OPmobility – a rapidly growing automotive market with a strong base of engineering talent,” said Laurent Favre, Chief Executive Officer of OPmobility. “By expanding our Pune Technical Center and our manufacturing presence, we aim to strengthen our partnerships with Indian and global automakers while driving sustainable, technology-led growth.”
Local Production to Reduce Tariff Exposure
As part of its global localization strategy, OPmobility emphasizes producing within each market to minimize exposure to tariff fluctuations. The company follows a decentralized approach — manufacturing in the U.S. for the U.S., in Mexico for Mexico, and in India for India – to ensure operational resilience amid evolving trade and supply chain dynamics.

The company has also initiated community development programs, including infrastructure upgrades and digital learning support for local schools.
Globally, OPmobility operates 150 plants and 40 R&D centers, employing nearly 39,000 people. In India, its growing R&D footprint, anchored by the OPmobility Pune Technical Center, positions the company to meet rising demand for next-generation automotive technologies and sustainable mobility solutions.
